چکیده

Premalignant lesions of mucosae urinary bladder are flat, noninvasive lesions of urothelium such as atypical hyperplasia/dysplasia and nonpapillary carcinoma in situ (CIS). The aim of this study was to identify association between premalignant lesions and subsequent invasive carcinoma. The study includes 60 patients with diagnosed noninvasive superficial and invasive bladder tumors. Our examination suggested that atypical hyperplasia/dysplasia and in situ carcinoma were more frequent in the higher grade and pathologic staging. In our material we had three patients with this concomitant lesions. Essential events in evaluation bladder urothelial carcinoma is grading, pathological staging and identification of premalignant lesions of mucosae urinary bladder. The authors suggest that the identification of patients with urothelial CIS and atypical hyperplasia/dysplasia is a particularly important event, representing the locus minoris resistentiae for the development of invasive bladder cancer.

Antigenic Profile of Muscularis Mucosae and Muscularis Propria of the Urinary Bladder

Background: Differentiation between the muscularis mucosae (MM) and muscularispropria (MP) of the bladder remains challenging. Objective: To identify MM- and MP-specific antigens that could be of potential value for staging of urothelialcarcinomain a pilot study. Method: The expression of 12 protein antigens in 11 human bladder specimens was examined. There were 5 post radical cystectomy specim...

ras Oncogene p21 expression is increased in premalignant lesions and high grade bladder carcinoma

ras Oncogene p21 antigen is present in the most superficial cells of the normal bladder urothelium, as demonstrated by immunohistochemical staining. The pattern and intensity of p21 staining of cells in epithelial hyperplasia and low grade bladder carcinoma were similar to that seen in the normal urothelium. In contrast, epithelial cells in "premalignant" (dysplastic) lesions and high grade car...

Chernobyl-related Bladder Lesions: New Interpretation Required

Some aspects of practical pathology in the former Soviet Union, having a potential impact on the diagnostic quality, as well as possible mechanisms of false-positive diagnostics of malignant and premalignant lesions after the Chernobyl accident were discussed previously. In particular, overdiagnosis appears probable in regard to the bladder lesions detected in the radio-contaminated areas. Some...

Unique properties of muscularis mucosae smooth muscle in guinea pig urinary bladder.

The muscularis mucosae, a type of smooth muscle located between the urothelium and the urinary bladder detrusor, has been described, although its properties and role in bladder function have not been characterized. Here, using mucosal tissue strips isolated from guinea pig urinary bladders, we identified spontaneous phasic contractions (SPCs) that appear to originate in the muscularis mucosae. ...
